Building a Capacitor Leak tester
Building a capacitor leak tester, was a choice I made after I was surfing on the internet.
It became clear to me that it was necessary to have one in my lab, to be able to investigate older radio's.
Most off those capacitors in the older radio's are often leaky or shorted or even open.
In the past I purchased some older capacitors, I better had not done that, it's wasting money.
It took me about one week to finish the building project.
First, I had to construct the transformer, and solder some print board together to fit the parts, transformer meters potentiometers switches, design the front etc.
Schematic off the tester.
So after I finished building the capacitor leak tester, I tested those capacitors I purchased.
Unfortunately, it's all bin material. (see below)
WARNING!!!
THIS TESTER WORKS WITH HIGH VOLTAGES AND CAN INJURE YOU, OR EVEN KILL YOU!!!
IF YOU DEICIDE TO BUILD ONE YOURSELF, YOU DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!
The meter warmed up, then put on 45 volts.
The capacitor (on the left) rated 385 volts DC connected, and the result off that test.
Notice the voltage drop and the current drawn.
It speaks for itself.
